I've noticed that in this forum if you say something people can agree with, people tend to be civil. But, if you say something that goes against the norm, you're told you're sick and should basically leave the country, when exercising your 1st Amendment rights are as American as you can get

this is a free country and people have the right to say what ever they want. if you criticize someone for saying something u disagree with that is your right as an american as well. But you must always be civil when discussing politics, it just respectful.

I agree, if you say what you want you are being American because now people have to be politically correct so they don't offend someone, but so what?!?!?! If you offend someone they can't sue you for exercising that 1st amendment. We have more freedoms to express ourselves than literally any other country yet we censor ourselves all the time. I don;t care if someone says something I disagree with...that is their opinion and they have the right to say what they want, offensive or not. Its MORE UNAmerican to condemn them.

Neither one. Saying something unpopular is exercising free speech. Condemning someone for what they say or said is ALSO free speech.
Remember, the right to free speech is guaranteed EVEN if you disagree with what they say.

I would have to say that condemning someone for saying something unpopular is more un-American, but gosh I am so sick to death of this "un-American" name calling.

There is a limit on freedom of speech. What you say can offend others so watch what you say. Just because you have the 1st amendment doesn't excuse you for saying something outrageous or senseless.

I'm Anti-Bush, and I get A LOT of hate email for it, thank you for pointing out that our forefathers gave us free speech, and I plan on using it to the fullest extent of my capabilities

True freedom is defending someones right to say what you hate. It is hard but on here you have to learn to accept abuse if you are conservative.
