With iTunes 7:
- Plug your iPod in
- On your iPod screen (under Devices > Your iPod) in about the middle of the page there is a button "Restore". Hit that. That'll delete all your songs and set all your settings back to the factory default.

If you want to delete everything from the playlist on itunes as well, just delete all of the songs, then update your nano.
OR if you want to keep your playlist, but don't want any songs on your nano, just un-check each of the songs then update your nano.
hopefully this helps. =]

If you want to delete EVERYTHING off of your ipod including pics and stuff, then plug in your ipod and go to the page where it shows your ipod's pic and go to the bottom and find the button "restore." That will return your ipod to its original state for reloading or selling.
Hope this helped!

The best way to do it is Reset your ipod to its factory default settings. This will erase everything on your ipod. If you have the latest version of itunes you can click on your ipod and in Summary you'll see the button to Reset your ipod.

go into your iTunes place and click on music under library. Then click on all the boxes so that they are all un-checked and plug you iPod in. It will update your iPod and make it so the unchecked songs aren't on it. At least that's how mine works, lol.
