i have a slimline PS2 hooked up to a Sony high-def tv. in GT4, i saw that there are higher quality video settings. there is standard, 480p, and 1080i, but the tv wont display the higher resolutions. are there special cable to get that can take advantage of capabilities of my tv? is there anything else i can buy to boost performance and video quality?

You'll have to buy the component cables (red, blue, and green) for the ps2 and change the settings in the browser.

You can't get 1080i or 720p with the PS2 because the PS2 is not capable of outputting those resolutions, so no matter how hard you try, you'll never get those resolutions. It's like the Wii. No matter what, the Wii will never achieve HD quality. The best that you can get for the PS2 is 480p (using component cables), which is the same as ED TV. It's better than STD, but no where as good as HDTV.

Unfortunatly, only the Nintendo Wii, XBox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3 can output in HD quality, the PS2 can't support it.
