Take the second equation and substitute it into the first equation:
x-(-2x+4)=5
x+2x-4=5
3x-4=5
3x=9
x=3

y=-2(3)+4
y=-6+4
y=-2

The solution set is (3,-2)

Check:
3-(-2)=5
3+2=5
5=5

-2=-2(3)+4
-2=-6+4
-2=-2

1. x-y=5
2. y=-2x+4
using subtitution
x-(-2x +4)=5
x+2x-4=5
3x=5+4
3x=9
x=3
plug x=3 into any equation,
equation 1
3-y=5
-y=2
hence, y= -2
if you pick equation 2
plug in x=3
y= -2(3)+4
y=-6+4
y= -2
x=3;y= -2
solved
