Oh yes, very much so, and I believe that because I know God. I know my best friend. I know myself. I know a few other people who have made my life what it is, and I have no complaints. I have heartache like most people could never know, I have my trials and my sorrows, and I have great happiness and joy, and I get through all of it because of who I know...I also know that there is some song about God with a line like this in it(It's who you know), but I can't remember it at the moment! :)

Sometimes, especially at work. We get a lot of people to show up when we tell them someone special is going to be at an event. (We currently have sponsors with half of the sports teams in Michigan)

Yes.
This is especially true in Las Vegas, where I live.
Although I do believe if you are truly talented/knowledgeable, you will eventually find success either way, as long as you don't give up on your dreams.

Unfortunately sometimes yes. But not always. There are opportunities to shine for what you know... I just can't think of an example... hmm. That's saying something.

if i can put academic terms on this question, it seems like what you are asking about is the divergence between 'social capital' and 'human capital'. when looking at studies of health determinants and social economic status, both constructs have important effects. but, they both serve to complement each other. having human capital in and of itself is useless if there is no forum or countervailing source of social capital.

absolutely every job i've had has been through people i know - so there's a lesson to be learnt - try and get as many friends as you can, you never know when they'll come in handy!
