Obviously it's going to depend on your budget and the kind of food you like.

The Doubletree Hotel has a great steakhouse, good food, great service, steep prices.

The De Anza has the BEST (in my humble opinion) Italian restaurant. The service is the finest in all my experience. The staff is attentive without looming over your shoulder and the selections are done well. Again, steep prices.

Nearby Cupertino has a Benihana's, for that fancy, knife flipping show the chef puts on, but House of Gengi, on North First and Gish has the same kind of show and menu selections.

In that same intersection, the Menara Restaurant provides great entertainment, with Morraccan style cuisine and an ongoing floor show featuring belly dancers. (male and female)

Pedro's Mexican restaurant, on Freedom Circle, in Santa Clara has a nice look to it, but I much prefer the little "hole in the wall" Govea's Mexican restaurant, on Tully road and Quimby. Not fancy, but the best, most authentic Mexican food in town.

The Spaghetti Factory is noisy, but a lot of fun, and very inexpensive way to entertain a small to medium size group. My biggest complaint is that they don't take reservations.

The Elephant bar has some VERY interesting menu choices, but not a particularly romantic place.

Le Papillon, on Saratoga and Keily is fancy French cooking and can be VERY romantic. Good food and good service, but be ready to pay.

Do a search for the kinds of food you like and your budget. Look for reviews, so you don't get a bad experience on this special day.

Since it's your anniversary go to Santana Row, they have great restaurants with a really nice ambiance for every budget. My favorites are: Straights Cafe, Amber India,, Sino, Maggianos (best choice as far as price, food quiality, and atmosphere, but you need reservations ahead), pizza antica, Left Bank (more pricy)... and there's always CheeseCake Factory right across the street by Valley Fair, you can eat there and hangout at Santana Row for Deserte and Coffee at Cocola....

it is pointless asking on right here because of the fact none human beings understand your boyfriend or the varieties of issues he want...merely seem at what he's interested in or enjoys and get him something pertaining to to that. Or attempt to ask him (no longer in an obtrusive way) and you're able to get some help that way

The elephant bar is great, but there will be a wait.

I'd go to Ulipia. Awesome place, great wines, fair prices. And they take reservations.

How about Bennihanas? (I probably spelled that incorrectly).
Or The Elephant Bar?
