Surrounding states will welcome the businesses with open arms!

Jeff,I live in a town that has lost about 6 factories to other states and or countries. Businesses like Firestone, Burks Pump, Zexel, Valeo, Cash Valve. Even Caterpillar has threatened to move their factory. It may be a short term hardship, but in the long term they will have saved money.

Jeff P. makes a good argument but he is incorrect. Companies are outsourcing for THIS VERY REASON. By outsourcing they save money by not having to pay their employees what the government would be requiring. A business will look at what it will cost them to pay their employees what the government is requiring for the next several years and then compare that to how much it will cost to move which is not as much as it may seem depending on the industry the business is in. If it requires unskilled labor then they will move very quickly because within a week they will have enough TRAINED employees. The same way you sell a house and buy a new one with the money you make, a business will sell its ficilities if possible and use that money to buy a new one somewhere else. But this is a good way to get business to move.

Accually, No. Businesses will stay because of the tremendous amount of capitol it would take to move. They have to pay startup costs, new rent, They would have to search for workers all over again, move all equipment, buy a new building, Train those new workers, then it would take several months to get working at the same level they were at before. It costs too much money to do that, and they have the money to do all of this and then some.

They won't move out, and it probably won't affect people coming in. Businesses look at the available workforce and the training they have to do before hey can get running, not just taxes and minimum wage. In fact, that stuff usually doens't factor in, as most businesses now pay above minimum wage for skilled workers. Health care is often provided, though not always. This just hurts the companies that don't' give healthcare like Wal-Mart. Government regulation of Business is very common, and a force for good. Wal-mart for example, cannot move out. It's a store, and it's headquarters aren't there, so it doesn't' affect them. They would loose much more money if they shut down those stores.

it may not be the fastes but it will be quick.then add higher taxes and more restrictions along with the minimium wage hike coming from the feds and ta da,the taxpayers pay even more.
i don't get it when gov't doesn't understand the the taxpayer citizens always end up paying more.
why do we keep electing people who endorse "give aways" and then gripe we have to pay them?

Yep - they'll be looking for some poorer state that doesn't care what their workers get.
