that 1st answer is WRONG. it means that the batsmen is going through a period of batting defensively, not looking to score many runs, rather just focusing on not getting out. it DOESNT mean they are out and walking to pavilion. CLEAR!

When a batsman is focussing on defending his wicket and not attempting to score runs, it is generally said that the batsman has gone into shell.

Well batsmen are common to soft shelled turtles, when they are hit with the ball from the bowler, they become very frightened and receid into their shell in hopes to block the ball. Savvy?

THE COMMENTATORS MEANT THAT THE BATSMAN IS WALKING BACK TO THE PAVILLION WITHOUT A GOOD SCORE .CLEAR ? I HOPE SO !!!!
