The smallest readily available and easy to keep turtles are the Reeves turtle and many species of mud turtles- they run about 4"-6" long as adults.

Try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for info.

Remember- even with this small of a turtle that the tank space should be at least 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle length.

Why do you want to know? Bog turtles are small, but in most cases you can't buy one - they're threatened federally. Spotted turtles stay around 4" as adultes, and are occasionally for sale, but be careful - many for sale are wild-caught and were taken from the wild illegally. Captive bred spotted turtle juveniles sell for around $100 or more. Some species of North American mud turtles stay around four inches and are relatively inexpensive. Again, look for captive bred turtles and try to buy straight from a breeder rather than a pet store or wholesaler. www.turtleforum.com has some good breeders in thier ad section.
