no legal age requirement. airlines will fly anyone - even children if their guardian takes them to the desk to check in. however holiday companies will not sell holidays to under 16's. If you are planning a tent in a field then you can be 12 or 10 or whatever age your parents allow. you parents are responsibiole for you up to the age of 18. So in effect they call the shots til then.

Holiday? Age of consent varies in different states. I think that you have to be 18 or over to get a passport w/o your mommy and daddy's permission. Being able to work for your own money to pay the holiday with would be a good indicator.

Hi America,

I think you will find it is more to do with the terms and conditions of the company you book up with, not the law. They might refuse to accept persons under 18 or 21 if they are not officially accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This is because of the liability they face and their legal responsibility for you whilst you are under a contract with them.

You possibly need to work around this. You also need to be mindful that certain places have curfews on youngsters set by the local authorities. You will need to look at this to see if this applies to you at your destination if it is within the US.

Good luck

I can look back happily on many childhood holidays without my parents, but as far as I remember, these were either with friends and relatives, who assumed responsibility, or with my parents' signed consent. I allowed my son to travel to Africa to do voluntary work at the age of 16 without anyone objecting or demanding evidence that he had parental consent. Just check with the travel company as to what their requirements are, as they do seem to vary.

I thought that 18 years or 21 years are allowed as long as financial capacity, physical and mental is on the line, but holiday travel alone its boring you should be two or three its nice, try asia, its nice continent.
