Sperm can live outside the body for a certain amount of time. When a sperm sample is needed, a man can ejaculate into a sterile cup at home, then he has about one hour to get the sample to the lab for analysis. The cup must be kept at body temperature. So sperm can stay alive outside the body for a short period of time, especially in a warm, moist place.

I would guess they're still alive... for awhile, anyway. When men donate to sperm banks, they don't ejaculate right into a female. Also, I have seen video of Sperm cells swimming under a microscope before. Obviouslly those lived without going into a female.

It definitly stays alive from the time it's deposited into a donor cup at sperm banks, frozen & transplanted into the recepient egg.
