Most higher education jobs do that. Get a grad school or Ph.D. degree and you can more or less do what you want.

I think professional assassin is still pretty good.

Self-employment sometimes gives you the illusion of more dignity...but the realities of your particular industry or geographical area man mean not.

I guess I would need to know more about what kinds of dignity loss we're worried about here. (I'm primarily a computer programmer...while I have no delusions about the importance of my work, I don't feel especially violated in the office.)

There is dignity in all careers. It is individual companies that take dignity away from it's employees.

I would think any career where some sort of collegiate degree was required before one could start the job.

If you get a regular degree,
then a Master's.
then a Ph.D.

You can be a professor! or any type of teacher you choose.
You get lots of vacation days during the year, and have summers off.
