I forgot to make a recovery disk when I 1st got my PC.
A virus won't let me get on the internet, so I figured I should just restore my original settings.
I called tech support from the store I bout it from, & they recommended to help me for $60, or contact Compaq & they can send me 1 for $35.
Isn't there a website I can go to for recovery downloads?
I was on the Compaq site & it was trying to detect my other computer's info, but I don't need the recovery for that...
Is there a way to create 1 off the net so I can install it on my PC?

It worked! Thanx for the help dixierock.
I got the my PC restored; installed my firewall, & will soon install my antivirus & updates as soon as I get an internet connection.
The problem now is that I installed a PCI ethernet card. At 1st, Windows didn't want to take it, but I by-passed it & I was able to get an internet connection then before all the viruses came(before I had to get it restored).
So after I restored the system; I proceeded to install the driver for the new hardware (after removing the hardware from the system), then I & tried to bypass the warning again, but this time Windows wouldn't let me install the driver...
It let me do it the 1st time(but I kept getting a prompt that wouldn't disappear; so I would just shoo it off to the corner at times). I could get a connection fine.
I think that Windows doesn't really like the ethernet card so I'm thinking of returning it for a refund & getting a more expensive 1 that is compatible with my system. What do U think?

You can do a system recovery. It will clean everything off of your harddrive, so backup anything you want to save. Tap the F-10 key when your computer is starting. This will get you into "system recovery" Click yes, then follow the prompts on the screen. It will take about 45 minutes, and when you are finished, your computer will look just like the day you bought it. I have done this 3 times, and got the instructions, from a compaq tech. When you finish, go and get the windows updates (use express mode)..get the windows firewall, in control panel, put your antivirus program back on the computer (update) and your spyware programs (update) then go onto the internet and get all the other programs that you want back..This works great, only takes time to get your programs back..Good Luck..if you need anymore help, leave a message here, and I will get back to you..

No a recovery disk is from a manufacturer with windows and all the hardware drivers on it ready for a easy re-install.

If you are using windows XP you can use the system restore function to return back to a previous save point.
