My husband asked for a divorce last month but we have not lived together for almost a year. We have seen each other off and on trying to stay together but when he asked for a divorce recently, I finally decided that it is time. Although he still wants to work things out, I was asked out on a dinner date last week and had a great time. It was just dinner and conversation but I still feel guilty. Should I feel guilty about it? There is no way I would ever tell my husband about it.

I guess it is normal feeling guilty about a dinner date while you are still married but as you have not lived together for almost a year, you have done nothing wrong in my eyes. I bet your husband has had lots of dates and as he was the one that asked for the divorce, you can bet that he's not sitting at home twiddling his thumbs. If he still wants to work things out with you, why has he asked for a divorce ?? Was it your idea to separate ?? How long have you two been married ?? The fact that you would not tell your husband about your dinner date just proves that you feel guilty about it. If you know in your heart that your marriage is over. Do not feel guilty as you can not always help the way you feel. It's just life and it is always going to be tough at times. Best of luck to you and have a very Happy New Year.

I did this unintentionally last summer. My "ex" and I had worked out a friendly divorce, signed the papers, and paid our bills. He had been out of the house for months and we were sure it was finished, so I began to date. I found out a month after starting to date that the "ex's" lawyer had not filed one paper that needed to be on record, so we were not really divorced. I felt cheap and disgusted that I had been dating someone else while I was still "technically" married. We got the paperwork corrected and divorced the next week, but I still cannot forget that feeling.

I am currently seperated we have not been together for 6 months. She has a bf and I have a friend I must admit that it is odd to be out on a date while I am married. Your only other option is to wait till the divorce is finalized.

What you are feeling is perfectly normal!!! It takes some people longer to feel ready to date. I went out on my first date in December and had a great time. I was asked out 2 months after ex moved out but I was so not ready...kept feeling like I would be cheating. Now I know that I am over him and its no problem now.
