Doubtful. I would have to think that if someone sponsored the flight to the planet would have some type of claim on land, etc.
Now if you had your own ship, that would be a different story until the government showed up. Then I'm sure they would take it from you with regards to it being vital in national galactic security.

Well at the Academy Awards or some awards show they gave in the gift bags a certificate that says they now own 100 acres of land on the moon. So I guess it wouldn't matter because Tom Cruise already owns some of the moon and who wants to be his neighbor.

Can you truly own anything? You can claim land but it can easily be taken away from your claim.
However as the comedian Eddie Izzard says we have laid our claim by the cunning use of flags. "No flag no country you can't have one!" So I would mark my land with a flag! Maybe one of those cute ones people hang on their porch. Like a cute little kitty. Mars could use some color after all.

I happen to own the warrants on Mars and I've not agreed to sell any lots as of yet, thank You so very much for asking first. Now if You've made any improvements then You'll just have to have them removed or I'll be calling out the bailiffs.

No, Bush would find a way to make sure he could strip mine it first and then sell it back to you...
You would have to go through the US Government to get a flight up there with NASA in the first place...
Do you really think that the USA Government would just let us run up there and get away from them?

well, you would have to stake out the land and submit the dimensions. Then, if you cared for the land for 10 yrs, it would legally become your own. But, you'd have to pay taxes on it.

No one can live on Mars. The atmosphere is just too hostile for life.
