People with good common sense don't idolize anything especially celebrities. Guess we know what we're talking about.

Celebrities is persons that has succeeded in their lifes by making their dream come true, to be an actor, actress, singer or whatever.. And that brings them to be known by the whole world maybe by making a really good song or been given a good character in a movie.. If we like that song or that character we automaticly get the kick and become a fan of the singer or the actor/actress... The thing is that such things changes since movies and songs always pop up in our lives.. Another thing that makes the whole thing kind of important for the press is that they bring up news about our Idols all the time which indeed is important for the fans.. And now the thing is money, the press makes money by bringing news about celebrities..
Personally I see it that way but I do not say that I have never been or do not want to be a fan of someone that is famous. cause If I am it is maybe for the nice music the artist makes or for the knowledge to be so good at acting..And of course we sometimes become a fan just by the look of the celebrity if the guy is cute or the girl is pretty and so on...But such things comes and goes..
They don't mean anything to me it is just that we people sometimes admire them for succeeding in life which I think everybody wants in some way..
But sometimes it can be too much, maybe we get stuck with a celebrity and wanna know their email or phone number, in that case I think people go too far.. everybody has the right to have their own private life.. but if the celebrities put their email on their internet sites then that tells us it is ok to contact them..
So it is not wrong to admire other people. But that is not the way we see it. And then it is up to you to deside if it is wrong or right...
Peace!

I think a lot of people get under a "trance" because of the beauty and charisma the celebs have that they wish they had themselves. It's pathetic, I think, when I see people's locker doors covered in pictures cut from magazines, and hearts drawn around male celebs' faces. They are who they are, but just because they are good looking and have a good voice or acting skills does not put them above the rest of us. There are plenty of people with more talent than them that just cannot get started in a celebrity-making career fro financial or other reasons. Don't worry, you are definitely not the only one not under the trance, I have a whole group of friends who don't like the high spot celebs are in. And also, if I'm going to like someone, I'm not going to like a celeb that I have absolutely no chance of getting together with- I want to like someone I can see everyday and talk to, and who will not be consantly watched by everyone. The fact that everyone watches the celebs is why their personal lifes are always on the magazine covers- but I don't care who got married or pregnant, or divorced.

I don't idolize celebrities at all. I certainly don't love them. But I do like to ready celebrity gossip, and I try very hard not to be ashamed of that. Because I know that there are people like you out there that would think I'm nutty. And would have a hard time believing that I can just as easily pick up the New York Times as US Weekly. And get something out of both.
I think it's narrow to think that people are simply idolizing celebrities and that it's just about beauty. And if beauty is the only way to success, how do you justify Oprah and Rosie and endless other celebrities that aren't winning beauty contests any time soon? They may not be in the gossip pages as much (unless they are having a war with Donald Trump, also no beauty), but they are certainly successful. So if you are defining success as the number of times their photo gets picked up by the media, i.e. the britneys, paris', and lindsays of the world, well in my book they aren't good for much more than being my personal soap opera entertainment. I find reading about them entertaining, and in a way I'll admit that's very sad. Not that I find it entertaining as much as it's sad that people's lives become entertainment. And it's really sad that I'll happily read about Britney's latest lack of underwear exploit, but in a million years I wouldn't want to actually spend time with her.
Perhaps talking about celebrities is just a way of simply adding some harmless drama to the day.. . Or a reminder to not take everything quite so seriously. A little food for the desire to have some fun. And in the scheme of things, I would argue that reading celebrity gossip is one of the more harmless things I could be doing to add some spice to the mix of my own little complicated life

I don't care about celebrities. So many are horrible role models for young kids, having gone through jail time, drug battles, or one thing or another. It's so depressing that they are so over-glorified. I, for one, am very sick and fed up with this. I don't understand all these Britney questions, all this Beyonce and Jay-Z marriage talk, and so many other things I fail to name, because I just don't care! Okay, celebrities are celebrities and some donate a lot to charity and everything. Good for them, that's great. God bless and great job to them, right? Why make a big deal about them when thousands are dying in Iraq, Malaysia, and other unfortunate countries out there - does anybody care? It doesn't seem like it. I'm sick of these stupid, unnecessary celebrities!

I don't care at all about celebs, but they do deserve their privacy like the rest of us. If they use their celeb status and talents to help other people (Christopher Reeve, Oprah, Bono and others), then I respect them, because it shows they are giving something back to life. Unfortunately the anti-culture we live in promotes this kind of nonsense and focuses on the negative aspects. Most of the "beauty" you are referring to is artificial anyway. We need to fill our kids full of wonder and knowledge, not some kind of trashy hype, and the idea that money will buy everything.

I don't pay much attention to the doings of celebs. They're just people, some good, some bad, some incredibly stupid. I watch their movies and TV shows, but beyond that I really don't care what they might be doing with so and so at the Ivy or at a night club.

I completely agree with you! My opinion is that celebrities are MAINLY all rich, inheritants, movie stars, or singers. People want to live the life they have- humongous houses, never-ending closets filled with fashionable clothing, all the money they ever wanted, and they ALSO have celebrity boyfriends and girlfriends. Celebrities also get to get invited to each others houses for the "AWESOMEST" sleepovers ever, and all the oscars and Red Carpet events. I think it's really stupid cuz a lot of them don't even have brains. Plus, they have to get all disguised up if they don't want anyone to see them. I really don't understand why everyone's idols are famous!!!!

I hear you, your not alone in your thoughts. I love Oprah but turn the channel when she has some celebrity on that were all suppose to idolize. I think it has a tendency to make other people think their life is worthless because they are not rich and beautiful. I think there are way more important things to do and worry about besides worshiping some spoiled celebrity. Most of them are already worshiping there selves anyhow.

I'm not too sure if people really care what the celebs do in their lives, but the celebs are so self conceded that they seem to think that every one wants to know about them
