To save money on a centerpiece.....have a diapercake!! The diapercake can be made to the theme of your shower (or the nursery decor) and can serve as an attractive centerpiece (in lieu of flowers). It can also double as your gift to mom....as it will be full of diapers and other goodies for her son!!

PLUS....use it as one of the shower games. How many diapers in the diaper cake (make sure to keep track if you are building it....or have the person making it for you keep track so you will know!!)

Another great idea....have inexpensive greeting cards made up and have each guest fill one out for each birthday. (One guest does birthday #1, another does birthday #2....etc.). These will be great birthday momentos for that little boy as the years go by. Espeically when older relatives are attending.

Have fun and good luck!!!

Keep the favors simple. Dont go overboard and just have one or two "nice" doorprizes that go from about $20 $30 each...have a raffle. Give everyone an index card and have them put their addresses on it. That way you can draw from there and have the addresses for thank you cards.

I would just give chocolate wrapped ina mesh cloth with coordinating pink or blue and white ribbon. Or you could wrap mesh around votive candles or two or three tealight candles and give that as a favor.

Balloons help make it look really festive for not a lot of work...and normally arent' too expensive.

Ask close family to each bring a dish and that way you wont have to worry about catering, but remember if you have it in a private home or clubhouse someone will have to be on clean-up duty since there is no staff for this.

One idea that can be very entertaining is to ask everyone to bring a baby picture of themselves to the shower. After refreshments put all the photos in a box and take them out on at a time to see if anyone can figure which baby picture belongs to each woman. Another idea is to see who can drink any liquid (tea, water, juice) out of a 4 oz baby bottle the fastest and offer prizes to the winner. Hope you have a wonderful shower!!

one cool thing we did with each of my baby showers was made a belly cast of my stomach. This is something I will treasure for the rest of my life b/c it is a memory of one of the most amazing times in your whole life, and it shows how big your belly was too. After it dried we painted it and put my daughter's foot prints on it with her name, dob, weight, and length. We have it hanging on the wall in her room. Everyone loves the idea and we get so many compliments on it.
another idea would be to have the shower closer to the end of her pregnancy (like in the 30-36 week area) and have each guest bring a prepared meal that she can freeze and thaw later for dinner. Trust me, this is really convienent after having all the chaos of a new baby in the house. My friends and family did it for me with my first and man was I appreciating it after I delivered. It was so nice to know that If I wasnt feeling up to making a big dinner, I had something to fall back on that wasnt gross like hot dogs or something.

Look into a mother's blessing or blessingway. You might also ask each guest to bring a favorite children's book to get a nice library going for the baby.
