On Saturday, my cat ran past me and over my foot. As he pushed off my foot, his nail caught my big toe right along the nail bed on the side. Apparently he punchtured the skin and it was bleeding for a minute or two. I rinsed it off and then poured peroxide on it and then covered with a bandage with topical antibiotic. Now the area just next to my nail is redish and hurts to the touch. I've been soaking with a foot bath of warm water and epsom salt. I don't want to over react and call my doc if I don't have to. Any suggestions as to what else I can do for this and/or when I should be concerned enough to call the doc?

I got bit by one of my cats about 4 yrs ago and had a tetinus shot then, so I'm good as far as that is concerned. I have been on cipro for the past week for a cold, so hoping that antibiotic is enough to help this. The wound is a puncture, so there is really nothing "open" as far as I can tell.

PS.... I don't like having cats, they sorta came with the package when i met my husband. Trust me, I'd prefer to not have them.

You should not cover it with a bandage .let it dry and keep it dry .
No more soaking ,if it still has a open wound put iodine on it .
If you see any red streaks get to the doctor .
You could also get cat scratch fever from the cat . I would get checked out ,even though it may be nothing .

Keep soaking your foot in the salt solution every day. If it doesn't get better. You should be prescrbed anti-biotics. Better not to wait too long or it can spread. Don't ever stop taking anti-biotics just because you get relief before the timespan you're supposed to take them for. So, if you feel relief in 6 days and you are supposed to take it for 12. Continue to take it.
You need to get a dog. What do you need a cat for anyway. A dog wouldn't do this to you.

First as some of the others have said, see your doctor.
In the mean time, Neosporin or bacitracin ointments will work on the wound. Use them and keep the area covered.

I think you should just keep on soaking it with warm water and treating it the way you have been. If by Wednesday you don't see improvement or you notice pus coming out then you should call your Doc.

You could put some neosporin on it. I've had something similar happen and it got really bad for a bit but then it started getting better on it's own. I doubt anything serious is going to happen. As long as you keep it clean it should be fine.

It seems like you did the right thing. It usually takes a week or two before it heals completely. Wear comfortable shoes.

Go see your doctor. You need a tetanus shot.
The infected area will most likely develop into an abscess- that will have to be incised and drained. It might, or might not need an antibiotic.
Either way, see your doctor.

See your Doc. You may need a prescription.
Don't wait - this can become serious very quickly.

You need to get to your doctor, you can't delay and fool around with it. You may need antibiotics to ensure that the infection clears and doesn't spread.
