I used a hospital rental with my first baby, and I bought the Medela Pump in Style with my second. However, it broke, so now I'm back to the hospital rental. I really prefer the rental, because it's much faster. It's only $35 a month, and it gets the job done quickly. If I did it again, I would stick with a rental. You just ask for one before you leave the hospital, and a lactation consultant will bring it to your room and teach you how to use it. Good luck!

You can buy brand new, factory package sealed breast pumps on eBay. I found my Medela Pump In Style there for much cheaper than I would have paid in the store.
I think Medela is the most popular one, you can get so many additional parts including soft breast shields or different sized shields for a more comfortable fit. The Advanced Pump In Style offers a better and more realistic let down function as well.
Otherwise, check with your hospital or local LeLecheLeague for recommendations or rentals.
FYI, if it's not a hospital grade rental through a rental service, do NOT use a used one. Only the hospital grades can be safely used by more than one person and the motors can hold up to that much use.
Congrats and good luck!

Medela is a great brand if you are planning on going back to work and need to pump while you spend the day away from your baby. If you will be home with the baby most of the time until it weans, then a less expensive pump would be fine. I would recommend some kind that is electric over a hand pump because your hand gets tired! You can still find inexpensive ones that are electric. I used an evenflo model.

I used a manual one and it helped when I was engorged but I never pumped just because. I stayed home with my babies and didn't need to pump. if you actually need a pump I recomend investing into a electric one. Hospitals have good ones and they might let you rent them. Decide on cost of rent versus buying because you should breastfeed at least a year if not a year and a half to two years. It is so good for baby! (and Mommy) You could rent one at first and then if it is truly wonderful buy one! Medela sounds like one of the good ones. Happy Pushing! Good Luck! :)

medela is good, just make sure it is an auto pump, manual ones suck. try to get one with a 2 pump attachment. They are expensive, but soooo worth it. Good luck!

Medela was the one I used it worked very well. It's the benchmark. I was even able to rent it really cheaply for a pharmacy and I just bought the tubing and bottle parts. It's great to be able to save milk incase you are sick or just want a break in the day, or Dad to feed.

madela DOUBLE breast pump. Be careful about bying them on ebay. If you do make sure you purchase ALL your OWN attachments. You can also rent pumps...
They are very pricy, but very very worth it.
