what does the "v" mean in a guitar tab?

ive played for a year, and thats the only thing i never bothered to learn, so can someone tell me what it is, what it does, and maybe how to do it? thanks

the only thing the V means in a guitar tab is to apply "vibrato" to that note. this means you want to get that wavy sounding note, you know what i mean, hendrix was the king of vibrato. you get it mostly by just moving the string up and down really fast with your finger, its a tough thing to get right, but once you have it, everybody has their own signature vibrato.
