Because they are taught by their mothers how important is to look your best for the whole world to see. I suspect its a habit so ingrained in women's mind they don't even know they are doing it. It's like they are still trying to impress the right guy. It's a shame because somehow its got connected to their sense of self-worth

It all a result of the media and its subliminal messages creeping into women's psyche and making them believe they must look like the magazines in order to be defined as beautiful. since SO many people praise these images, women find it hard to run away from this ideal beauty. i can honestly say i had trouble struggling with being a size 11, but thank goodness in the Black community I am seen as "phat" as they call it and beautiful. Not every culture or race supports the thick thighs and bootylicious bums and big ample breasts. I am beautiful in my culture and praised...but to someone else I could be seen as too "big boned" or whatever. It depends on a women's confidence in herself and I must say its hard because these images are constantly shoved in your face and no matter how many times you look yourself in the mirror and say "you go girl" or "your are beautiful just the way you are" you then turn on the TV or open a magazine and see a pail thin woman being praised at the epitome of beauty, making you wonder if your delirious for thinking you are as well, as if you compare....
but i mean...that's just a hunch...

Do you see the airbrushed image of the females in magazines? if not just check it out and you will understand why many naive girls have a standard of beauty set on false dictators. It's absolutely ridiculous to me because I believe I am beautiful for WHO I am inside and that's what the MAN who I want to be with Will like about me .. not my acrylic nails.. fake hair.. fake contacts.. and all that.. because I don't have that. I feel sorry for those girls because they do not know any better and they are caught up in the expectations of this World.

it's for self confidence and just feeling good. some girls see it as a competition. others want to fit into a certain style of clothing. beauty is wanted because of the need to impress the ones we like or love, or just people in general. they might think that the better you look, the richer you look, but i don't agree. i have my own little style that gets lots of compliments but is not in because for some people you have to wear designer clothing and have to shop at certain stores. i go with whatever looks good on someone, whether it is real or fake.

I'll be danged if I know. I think the current stick figure mold that women seem to want is ugly. Women, especially so-called super models and a lot of actresses have lost their curves and now look like young boys with breasts.

Marylin Monroe had delicious curves and that meant she had (gasp) fat in some places.

it has a lot to do with society. For men its different you just need to make tons of money to be accepted. You don't feel pressure to do that? for girls its different. we live in a very look oriented society were everything is based on looks. Just look at the cover of any gossip magazine cover and that is what the focus is on. Who is skinner mary kate olsen or nicole richie to how terrible britney spears looks. I guess it is just society and they people around us that make some girls feel that way.

because its the only way to get guys to notice you when youre younger. i realize guys care about personality too, but no guy looks at a girl walking downt the street and says "D*MN! look at the personality she has on her!". most guys wont even look at a girl if shes not at least average. he may go out with someone less than average but thats only after he's known her for a while. luckily this gets better as age progresses because eventually all boobs look the same, saggy, and all thighs look the same, huge.
