Can anyone tell me whether we should book a hotel in Las Vegas before we go (24th Feb 2007) or is it cheaper rates booking into a hotel when we get there? We intend to book for the first night online then book other nights while we are there are we doing the right thing??

I would look for a good deal now and book as far in advance as possible. "Then" continue to check for a better deal.

You really don't want to spend your time in LV looking for a room - and or spend your time checking in and out of hotels.

February 24th 2007 is a Saturday - Many LV hotel/casinos will not take a reservation for a Saturday check in.

For room rates -

for LV info

Go to these hotel sites and sign up for their e-mail updates they are very good about sending out special e-mail offers.>Use the LVA site above as an easy way to link to each hotel site.

It's best to book before, for the reasons the others have posted here. But if you book directly with the hotel, and don't buy a package, you can cancel remaining nights if you decide you don't like the place or you just want a different location for your other nights.

It's very easy to check out rates and availabiltiy on line, but you can call any of them and discuss policies on cancelation, whether you can check in on a Saturday (some want you to book Fri Sat Sun because they have high demand on weekends).

When you check in you can always ask about upgrades... sometimes you can get a suite for just a few dollars more.
Have fun!

Book ahead of time. First, you can see all of the rates and get rates that you may not know about when you walk up to the checkin desk. Rates can vary a lot by hotel and date and can be higher if there is a convention in town. The hotel or room you want or can afford may not be available at the last minute.

Book ahead of time and save yourself some hassles and money.

Definitely before. I made reservations in September for a November weekend in Vegas. At that point the room was a little over $300 per night w/taxes, etc. By the time of the trip that same room was over $700 and many people were complaining that the town was sold out.

I work in a hotel and highly recommend making a reservation. Do not give out your credit to hold the reservation unless you are sure you are going toactually information go. I work at the hotel called Vogelweh Inns here in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Vogelweh1949@yahoo.com! Good luck.

Book as soon as you can. Prices can be several times more if you try to book when you get there. I know, i have done it both ways and have had to pay 4x what i could have paid. Book in advance for all the nights you want to be there. You will only pay more if you don't.

before you go. To much of a hassle to find a place when you get there. You can find many good deals on line. Check the hotels website directly. You can find good deals that way too.

i've had complete misery with hotels and not booking ahead of time. cost aside, you don't want to be spending your vacation looking for a vacant hotel. i've done that and i always book ahead of time now.
p.s. i've never found there was a cost difference between booking in advance and just showing up to rent a room
