I'm currently a high school sophmore and I've started looking at colleges. I want to eventually become a guidance counselor. I live in NJ and don't want to go too far from home. Colleges I'm looking at are Loyola College in Maryland, Millersville University, Shippensburg University, The College of New Jersey, Villanova University, Canisius University, and University of Hartford. How difficult is it to get into these colleges and how are their education and psychology programs?

These colleges are really not competitive in their admissions. Out of those, Villanova is arguably the best in terms of the education and athletics.

What makes geologists so much in demand at the moment is the need in petrochemical and related fields. The applications in these areas all involve the scientific and technical end of geology. That means they rely heavily on organic, inorganic and physical chemistry as well as some of the higher end math. Another direction that has some demand is earthquake prediction which relies on sophisticated mathematics. If you want to go into geology at the higher degree level, you have to be willing to embrace the concepts that are necessary to master the material. I would doubt that you could get into a Masters program without the prerequisite undergraduate courses (or knowledge demonstrated in some other way).

I would not recommend Loyola College. I think Villa Julie is alot nice and not as competitive. Another great school in Maryland is Washington College
