Should I leave the washing machine door open right after use so that the machine can air out? There is almost always leftover moisture and water droplets on the door. My husband is telling me that it is uneccessary and doesn't make a difference. What do you think?

It is not a bad idea to leave the door ajar to allow the moisture to dry. Unlike the top loading machines the entire tub area is sealed on a front loader and if the door is tightly closed everything is sealed inside.

If you have the new front loader washers I would recommend keeping the door open. Everything I have read about them says to do the same because they are notorius for having mold on the doors if they are not left open. Even if you don't have that and you have moisture probs I would keep the door open to prevent mold. Run a hot short bleach cycle every so often to make sure it is clean.

I close mine and usually have no trouble as long as I run an occasional cycle with hot water and bleach. But it might be a good idea to let your washing machine dry with the door open.

I never used to leave the door open, but since I got my front loader, I leave it ajar. There is such a tight seal on that thing that it traps the moisture. If I forget to leave the door ajar, it tends to stink inside. Who wants to wash their clothes in a stinky washing machine?

I think its unnecessary , as i always shut the door and have been since the beginning of time.. I do about 2 loads of laundry a day (I know, that sucks, huh?) and have never had a problem

Your husband is right. I doesn't make any difference if you keep it shut or leave it open. I always shut mine and never have a problem.

I try to leave my open. I think it smells funky if it closed for a few days.

If you use it daily, it doesn't matter. Longer than that -- leave it open. What can it hurt?
