I live on the east coast of maryland and it hasnt gotten cold yet. We have these little flying black bugs that bite my mother and make her bleed. I dont see them until she picks them off. Does anyone know what they are or how to keep her from getting bit. They range in size from a needle to a pencil head. They dont bother anyone else i know.

They sound like gnats or minges, different parts of the country call them different names. They like certain people, I'm one. When we go to Maine, they call them Black flies there, I get eaten alive. I know that Deet is the only repellent that really workd these days but it's not really nice smelling or good for you though. Try vinegar for a natural cure, it repels ants over time when nothing else will and it's safe in the kitchen. also you can try Avon's Skin So Soft. It works for some things. Good luck.

Hard to be sure what kind of bugs they are withought seeing them, but they could be gnats. Try a bug fogger. You can buy them at home and garden stores. You do have to cover up all food, remove your pets from home, and then leave for a few hours. But, you have to find out how they are getting into your house or they will just come back. Need to seal up windows and doors better? Do you have a pet whose food they might be hatching in (I have guinea pigs, and I think every now and then, they hatch from the hay I feed my guinea pigs).

Use some spray on your Mom, since they seem to bother her the most.
