I stayed there last summer and found that it is within walking distance of a couple shopping areas, so it was nice if you want to go off the resort. One shopping area is directly across the street.
As far as service and food goes, just remember that you get what you pay for. Unlike some higher end resorts, the restaurants close fairly early and there is not a wide variety of meal options. They have entertainment at the resort, but it only lasts for about an hour or so. They tend to push the excursions to the bars at night, which can be very expensive. The front desk people aren't always very helpful, and, if you get henna at all while you're there, please make sure you don't use their towels to wipe it off, because you will end up paying for new towels/washcloths.
I would recommend stocking up on bottled water. The mini bar gives you a multitude of soda, but only 2 bottles of water per day. So, if you are going to be out in the sun drinking, you will also need water, which, when you get through your two bottles, you will end up paying for it. Just go using the city bus, up to Walmart and buy a couple big containers of water.
They've got awesome mixed drinks!!! Start right away with ordering a pina colada, the Miami Vice or a Blue Lagoon.
Their pools and beach area are awesome, too!
If you are going here because it's a bargain, then it is. If you're looking for 5-star service and quality, you won't find it. Overall it was a pretty good resort for the price.
