I'm looking for a good school for film and animation. I want to go to a school with emphasis on the writing, storyboards and the other early stages of animation but either way is fine. I'm already considering Pratt, NYU, RIT, RISD and CalArts. What other colleges would you recommend I look into? or even which of these colleges above would be the best suited for me?

Woodbury University in Burbank, CA has animation, and is located near Disney, and Dreamworks so you could get an internship there while going to school.

A lot of times you begin taking classes for your major and decide you would rather do something else. College is about finding yourself. Don't fret about this too much when you are just going in, unless there could be some penalties related to changing your specific major. I had a friend that went to college as a science major on a full-ride scholarship that was supposed to be based on his grades and personal achievements. When he figured out that it wasn't exactly what he wanted to do, he attempted to change his major. This was 2 years in. They took back his scholarship. This could have been avoided if he had simply asked from the start if there were any specific limitations (besides the obvious of maintaining his grades). He could have gotten a scholarship to any college he applied for, but since he was dead-set on getting into this specific college, he rushed without reading the fine print. Today, 4 years later, he has found that veterinary studies was his calling...and he is doing very well in a job that he loves. He did manage to get another scholarship at another college. My best suggestion is to just go for it. The first year or so is when you take all the necessary prerequisites anyway. Take a class or two that pertains to your specific major while you are obtaining your prerequisites and maybe you'll find that you love the direction you are heading in. Maybe one of your prerequisites will inspire you to look elsewhere for where you want to spend your future. I took Spanish, German, French, Arabic, and Japanese in persuit of a language major. As a filler, I took pre-law 101 and realized that that is exactly where I wanted to be. Now I work in a law firm, and even though I am still in law school, I love it. The languages are useful and are still something for me to fall back on, but this is what makes me happy. Persue your dreams, whatever they may be or become. Good luck to you!
