it is north of the city of Union City and South of San Lorenzo and San Leandro, near Oakland Ca.
It is home to California State University East Bay (formerly Cal State Hayward).
It is an interesting town that is nowhere near west covina.

Hayward....in between Union City and San Lorenzo
There's a bridge there that takes you to Foster City.
There's California State University East Bay...formerly Cal State Hayward.
There's a Kaiser Permanente, St. Rose Hospitals
Southland Mall
Tennyson, Hayward high, Moreau, etc
Tennyson, Jackson, A street, Mission Blvd, Winton

There's a Hayward in Wisconsin-it'l like north-western Wisconsin.

I know where it is, because I work there!
I think most people in the East Bay would know where it is. Elswhere (peninsula, Marin, Monterey, etc) people don't know because they have no reason to know. It's not that great of a place.
