Well, the way I understand it, the majority of them got wasted for the new millennium. And they got so wasted, they forgot how to rock real hard. So the rappers who were just shooting at each other (and missing because they never had any formal weapons training), took over, and after that, the rockers just couldn't keep from laughing at rappers and their baggy pants and whatnot. So they have mostly been out of comission.

Either that, or people are getting stupider in their musical tastes. You decide.

There are still some great rockers, you just have to keep moving forward, man. I've been a rock musician most of my life and I can't keep up with the excellent music being reinvented out there. But, if you mean someone like Jefferson Airplane, or even Led Zep, I'm sorry, but their time was then and this is now.
I know it's not the same, lead break for ten minutes format, but some newer bands are full of that same, raw emotion, some surpassing it. Simon Says, not a new band really, but a jamming, hard rock band. Chevelle, great. A great quality band is Incubus, probably the best in this generation but not alone. There are still plenty of local bands here, in MS, rocking away the weekends in the clubs. Go out and see one in a nearby town and get their CDs if you like them. There is no shortage of good music out there.

Since Pop Music is based on Popularity and has so much to do with fashion, every three to five years fashion changes, kids change, and bands become unrelevant. Rock music was big in the 80's. Hair bands are still around but since the 90's they've been a dying breed. Pop music of the 90's and 2000's killed Rockers. They are now either extinct or found on cruises.

Saw four old farts - aka Rolling Stones - rocking their hearts out in November. Keef was in fine form, Mick was darting back & forth like a 20 year old, Ronnie was kicking behind, and, as usual, Charlie banging the drums w/his heart & soul. I have hope for young rockers as long as my old boys are there to set the example.

The advertising demons got their claws in them all and now we are "entertained" by the likes of Jessica Simpson and f*cking Beyonce...it's depressing. You are right, there hasn't been a true rawker since Freddy Mercury died......with the exception of Keef Richaaards....
