Not sure about Oprah, but they do get paid to be on the Tonight Show....I can't remember how much, but it was under 500

From this other Answers page, I think yes, they do get paid a little. But the biggest incentive is the publicity they get from going on the shows, e.g., publicizing an upcoming movie.

thats a good questions,I've asked myself that before.I'm thinking though...they need the publicity to promote their upcoming films and stuff right?So I'd almost think no?But then again I could see them getting paid cuz their spolied like that.

No, they go on to hawk their latest movie, tv or radio show, or perhaps they wrote a book.
They get free advertising of that movie or book.

I don't think they get paid but I think it is more of exposure to what they are trying to promote such as movies, books, etc.
