During a pap smear, a speculum is inserted into your vagina and a doctor uses various instruments to swab and collect samples. It shouldn't hurt, but it may feel a little uncomfortable pinch..and then cold. A pap smear is not going to be able to tell if you are pregnant though. You better tell your doctor that you think that you could be pregnant beforehand. Your doctor will ask you questions(when your last period was, if your periods are regular, if you're sexually active, etc.) before a pap smear. If necessary, your doctor will give you a pregnancy test. The doctor will also feel your lower abdomen. If you're pregnant, it'll most likely feel hard.
Do you have PCOS or do you just think that you do? I'm guessing that you are quite young. If you are pregnant, they may tell your mom. It all depends on the laws in the state in which you live. If it turns out that you are pregnant, tell the doctor that you want to tell your mom yourself. Regardless, your mom is going to find out anyways(if you are pregnant).

Papsmere's really are not that bad they insert this funny looking thing into you and open it its a little uncomfortable but its over quickly they take a long cotton swab and just take a small swabbing to be sent out to be tested to see if theres anything wrong. I am not sure what you mean by "will the doctor be able to know if i have pcos" better explain that and I can help out a little more. I don't think that they can tell your mom. It really depends on the laws in your state. the way you can remain calm is just takeing deep breaths and thinking about something plesent. anything that makes you happy. good luck.

I'm a nurse. Yes a doctor will be able to detect a pregnancy from pushing down on your abdomen. You can ask for the doctor to respect your privacy and not let your mom know anything that is going on with you. I would suggest you go this route. However you should talk to your mom before the appointment.

If you're pregnant, they wont be doing a pap test. They ask you "are you or could you be pregnant?" so you better answer truthfully.
I dont know how old you are, or in what state you live, but in mine they do not have mandatory parental notification.
Pap smear pinches for about 2 seconds--it's cold first, then a pinch and then that's it.
If you dont feel comfortable being alone in the room, ask the nurse to accompany you. Insist upon it.

Pap smear doesn't tell if you're pregnant, but it will pick up some STD's. You can go to the gynecologist without your mom.
The doctor will try to figure out if you have pcos, but you should share your concerns that you might with him/her, because it's tough to diagnose.
You should talk to the doctor about good birth control so you don't get pregnant or STDs.

If your going to the appointment on your own you should be fine just let the Dr and nurses know that you want to tell your mom your own way. If she is going with you then if you get a chance you need to let the nurse or Dr know that you might be pregnant but you dont want your mom to find out until you get a private, comfortable chance to tell her. They should respect that.
Good luck!!

RELAX! Sheesh! Lol. A PAP smear is a quick, non-painful procedure. And if it makes you feel any better, I was pregnant at my last one and the doctor didn't notice. If you are sexually active, you need to make sure you get a PAP smear because it can detect HPV and other STD's which are extremely prevalent nowadays.

A pap smear isn't going to tell you if you're pregnant. You can buy a pregnancy test yourself to find that out.
And I don't think they can tell anyone without your premission, it's a health pravcay act called HIPAA.
