Sorry no one has answered your question yet! just a bunch of conspiracy theories. Before Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor the US was in no way ready to fight a war, we were in our great depression. We were sending supplies to our allies to help fight against the Germans, but by no means did we or our allies have anyway to be on the offensive and go in and help the Jews. Though when we did enter the war if we had known about what was going on I'm sure that that would have been on the list of other reasons for joining the fight. Europe was to heavily fortified by the Germans at that time, only until D-DAY (June 6, 1944) did the allies gain enough strength to break into "Fortress Europe".

Th US government had reports about the Holocaust at the beginning of the war. see
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/07/02/national/main299399.shtml
Report are not proof but they had some Idea what was going on. They did not publicize it so the American public did not know until the US troops overran the camps. If your question is should we have fought WWII if nothing else had been at stake except preventing the Holocaust the answer in retrospect is no,since even fighting a full out war we did not win in time to prevent most of the Jews from being killed and the loss of life was enormous. However a government that would institute such a policy is a threat to everyone, so it is not reasonable to think saving the Jews could be the only thing at stake.

Actually, the US did go to help Europe and its peoples, but Roosevelt's intentions were not purely humanistic.

To me, the US entering WW2 on the side of the Allies was rather odd. The reasons were for the most part economic, but you had a madman in the form of Adolf Hitler who was exterminating and entire race of people and doing other ghastly things; which didn't make for good business for anyone. Fighting wars and invading countries is one thing, as long as it doesn't mess with your country's interests too much, and supplying weapons and munitions has always been a long time money maker for all the major nations of the world; so a lot of venturing capitalists in both Europe and American really didn't mind WW2 breaking out. But when you've got someone who is suddenly not playing by the international rules of trade and wiping out entire races of people, you're messing with someone else's customer base.

Soap lands are like the "massage parlors" in many western countries. Because they aren't explicitly offering sexual services they are legal. In a strictly technical sense the women working there are only there to help you wash. That being said, if you go into a soap land establishment then there are "extras" which figure into the price tag that are not advertised. Also, in a technical sense prostitution is illegal in Japan. However the police are not adverse to the feel of a bit of extra money (read bribe) from local gangsters to not see certain things which go on in many cities across Japan.

The reason was that was out of the question is because the American public had a bad taste in it's mouth in the wake of World War One. They were pumped full of Anti-German atrocity propaganda and when the US fought in Europe they found out most of it were lies used just to win sympathy for the British and French cause.
When the war ended rather than grant freedom to nations in Africa and Asia that had been German colonies they were divided up amongst the victors as spoils leading many Americans to think the war was fought to make the world safe for the British, French and Japanese empires. So a war just to rescue Jews however, righteous it would appear nowadays would have been next to impossible to sell.

Why should we go far away to save people?

Because America is a good country. Its people came here from faraway and they and their grandparents know what bad things happen in other countries.

They remember coming here and making a new life for themselves and their family.

Now they want to help others, just like America helped them.

America is more than a place with lots of money.

America has a great heart.

the following is outside of the usual mainstream view of history. thus, i doubt your teacher will be interested in it. however, you are at an age when beginning to think for yourself is a good idea, and this may provide food for thought, as they say. the "true" background and reasons for the various wars fought over, at very least, the last 100 years are never presented in the school books you've been provided with. in all of them "the people who run the planet" are behind both sides. by virtue of the wars they accomplish two important (to them) goals---to make huge amounts of money from supplying the two warring factions, and by helping to reduce the planet's population. (60 million people died as a result of ww2,alone, and we're still "overpopulated".) check out http://www.davidicke.com for an easy to understand explanation on this topic and many others which you may find interesting, even though of "tender years". good luck!

I thought we did, we went as soon as we were ready. We didn't know of the extent of the holocaust until the death camps were liberated....

You never want to help no one. Although you are able to find excuses to invade other countries. You invaded Iraq because Saddam was an enemy of US, not to "free Iraqs", you invaded Afghanistan because of 9/11, not to "free Afghans", you invaded Vietnan to stop communism, not to.
etc..
etc..
etc..

Yes everybody should.
