The Audi A4 1.8 is a small hard working sedan, the average MPG of mixed driving that most people I know get with a well running 1.8T is around 16-18mpg. The car in my opinion is a bit underpowered, but the Audi quattro is amazing for the snow, rain, and just about anytime. If you could splurge for the 3.0 I would do that in favor of the 1.8T, but the 1.8T is a decent vehicle. I hope that helps with your decision.

That is not true. The 1.8 turbo is superb and gets closer to 30 mpg. All euro engines require only European grade full synthetic oil ONLY. VALVOLINE will destroy them over time as it shuts down the oil feed and return lines with oil clots and starves the bearings. Audi engines using proper 502/505 spec number oil will have no engine issues. Quattro rules with superb traction and least energy wasting and is trouble free. The suspension out performs BWM due to it's double ball joint suspension now also found on the new 2015 Mustang. Audi will never rust and uses the same suppliers shared by BMW, Benz, VW, PORSCHE,Volvo and Saab. ZF makes trans and steering for all of them. Same brakes too. At thirteen years old, all fluids should be replaced using only RAVENOL or PENTOSIN fluids. Expect 500 k mikes, but using new timing belt every 100 k miles. Then you will have zero problems. At thirteen years it nay have original belt in it that must be checked and changed. Ask for Carfax and repair

It's a Great car. Audi makes good car. As long as you take care of it, the car will take care of you. Do all your service on time, and the car will last you long time. And do not have the service done at dealership, they are overpriced.
As far as 1.8T, if you chip it for like $500, it will be faster than the 3.0 version. It really depends on you. If you want reliablity, get the 3.0. If you want speed, get the 1.8T chipped.

My friend said the 3 series is better because the handling is crappier on the A4 compared to the 3 series Bimmer.
