I have an emachine W3503 and I wanna know after replacing the internal hard drive with one that has a lot more memory what do you do after that? I heard that it takes several days for everything to tune itself with the computer or something to that effect. Is there a lot of work changing one and are you good to go after that's done?

When you purchase a new hard drive it will come with copying software. You do not have to re-install anything. It will mirror your old hard drive. You will install the new hard drive in your computer. Leaving your old one installed and then just run the software that came with your new hard drive. You can then remove your old hard drive. You will now have a new hard drive with all of your old information on it. The only thing that is new is you will have more space. You can do this in a couple of hours. If you experience any difficulties there are always support #s to call from your new hard drive company. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! It is not that difficult. If you decide to do this yourself, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Just make sure and get your jumper settings correct the first time and it will go smoothly.

Well I don't know about the several days to tune itself (I think thats a load of bs) but it really isn't that hard if you know what you are doing.

Once you have the hard drive you would just open the case, unplug the old one, and then plug in the new one. Of course there are more details you can read about here:

You will also have to reinstall windows and stuff like that which may take a while. Be sure to read the instructions in the box and look it up online.

You will have to format the hard drive, install the operating system.
There is software out there that you can use to transfer the stuff that was on to the old HD on to the new one.....I personally use Norton Ghost.

for IDE- Set the jumpers in the back of it to primary slave if you dont have anything else taking a spot up on your primary ide channel. If you do set it to secondary master and plug it into the secondary controller on your motherboard. Then plug power into it.. Boot up computer, go into BIOS if you need to, to enable the spot you took up in the IDE channel then boot into windows. Right click my computer go to manage. At manage go to disk management. Find the new hard drive you installed and partition it with a primary partition if you dont plan on splitting the hard drive up. If you do you will need to create an extended partition with logical drives. After that format the drive with NTFS.

For SATA- with your computer on or off plug the SATA cable to the back of your hard drive and the power cable and plug the cable into the motherboard. Go into disk management and look and find the drive you just connected. Repeat what I said up ^^^ for partitioning/formatting..
