I own an iPod nano and iPod docks keep coming up. What are they? I am looking for a very detailed description.
Also, a little white thing came with my silver nano. Is that a dock? What should I do with it?

An iPod dock is "an elegant home base for charging and syncing with your computer or for connecting iPod to your home audio system. And the Universal Dock supports the optional Apple Remote, so you can control everything from afar." (Direct quote from: http://www.apple.com/ipod/accessories.html)

It basically is a way to sync you iPod to your computer, charge it and hook it up to a stereo system.

The "little white thing" is an insert for the universal dock that is compatible with you iPod nano. It is used so that the iPod stays connected and so that you do not damage the dock.

yeah, its pretty much just a stereo/charging device that you can buy. Most of them work with all iPod's except the shuffle, and some are special for certain iPod's. The one I have costed me about $100. Very good investment in my opinion.

About the little white thing that came with your iPod...for some docks (not all, but some) you can use that to stabalize it while it is on the dock. I'd keep it, just incase you end up getting a dock where you need that little piece of plastic...because as far as I know, you probably can't buy them seperately

The dock is the little plastic piece shown here that you dock the Shuffle on to for syncing, charging, etc.

The piece that came with your Nano is an adapter for the Apple Universal USB dock that allows the Nano to fit into it. Here's a picture of the Universal dock.

There in all likelihood are not many docks today because the fifth merely got here out some months in the past. you may want to purchase a connector that you'll connect the dock to the 30 pin end to, and use the lightening connect end on the fifth gen iPod. you may view and purchase them on the web apple keep. verify out upload-ons the recent iPod, new iPad or iPad Mini, extremely any gadget that makes use of the lightning connector.
