Manatees are found in the Caribbean Sea, the Amazon basin, West Africa and, fortunately for us, along the Gulf of Mexico. Manatees enjoy warmer water and are a migratory species. Within the United States, West Indian manatees are concentrated mainly in Florida in the winter, but can be found in the summer months as far west as Alabama and as far north as Virginia and the Carolinas. since they are very rare, alot live in Florida so their population can build back up. The known population of Manatees is about 3,000 which may seem large but is very small in the animal kingdom.

Because of contamination, accidentally trapping them in fishing nets, whatever they eat has had a decrease in popullation, and boats with their propellars. Endangered animals make me sad...
