(somehow that phrase looks jumbled...forgive it if it is).
perhaps what is meant by your "?" is that when some shocking event occurs that somehow directly relates to you or evokes a powerful memory, then is when you're reminded of the realities of life, ie. obligations, your own mortality, etc. then yes. you snap out of the mundane and ordinary. you sense the fragilty, worth and purpose of life. if that's the 'meat of your "?" then my answer is YES, very much, YES!
