Another sign would be where the heartbeat was last heard at your prenatal checkup. If the heartbeat was below your belly button then the baby is most likely head down. If it's above the belly button, the baby is most likely still head up (breech).

Well obviously that is the case. When you deliver a child the head is what comes out first. The only way you can tell if your child is in breech position is by sonogram on or around the day of delivery. During your pregnancy (from begining to end) the baby is going to move and turn every way every where. When the baby is kicking you in the ribs and painful areas lay on your back. This will release some of the pain and the baby will move away from that position after a few minutes.

I knew my son was breech from the time i was 5 months pregnant until i had him by c-section.
His head was right underneath my ribs and when he would kick it would feel like he was kicking me down there and back there. You know what i am trying to say.

if you feel kicking up in your ribs, chances are the baby is head down. you are at 38 weeks, so you should be seeing your doctor once a week now. ask him, since no one on yahoo answers will know for sure.
