I leaving for st thomas USVI on 01/20/07. I heard from a friend that if you go to timeshare presentations down there you can get some really cool free/discounted stuff. I heard there is one place that will even give you and your guest 50% off of a daysail. I have no intent to buy (i just did a month ago), but it would be nice to save some money while I'm down there. Thanks for your help!

Timeshare presentations are the same the world over. It takes longer than you can imagine it would and the perks are not nearly so nice as they sound. The "stainless steel barbeque" becomes a $11 habachi with some SS trim. etc. And the 50% off the on the daysail? Those coupons are probably free at the visitor's center or you could call daysailer firms youself and spend 5 minutes haggling. Beats blowing 3-4 hours with a salesperson. Spend that time on the beach or hiking up into the hills.

Also, consider that they are MUCH better selling than you expect (NO ONE goes to one of those planning to buy, but some ending up doing so). They'll talk about it as an investment property, how easy it is to resell, blah, blah, blah. To which I would respond, if it is such a good investment, why are THEY selling it?! And if it is easy to resell, why do they have to resort to giving crap away and high-pressure sales tactics by professionals - you'll never be able to match that.

P.S. I arrive in USVI on 1-20-07, too. I'll be the 45-year old with the 2- and 6-year old in tow.
