I want to ask my boss for a raise. My salary is low compared to what's listed on salay.com for my job description. Basically I want to say to my boss, 'based on salary.com, this is what average people are earning for the same type of job that I do'. Or should I even bring up salary.com when asking for a raise?

You will need to adjust their figures to localized info for your area, and then negotiate carefully with your boss. You dont want him /her responding with a " your fired.net "

How Accurate Is Salary.com

We use it in the mortgage world to determine what people make when they state their income to us. So, I suppose it is fairly accurate.

However, don't be "that guy" who uses a website to justify a pay raise. I would laugh and tell you to stop surfing the web while at work. You need to justify your pay raise by your excellent work, seniority at the company, and valuable skills when compared to your peers.

Best of luck!

For me it's not very accurate at all. You could use it as a general guide, but don't be surprised if it's off by as much as 20%.
