It's never too late to try. Sir Robert Helpmann, one of the greatest dancer/choreographers of the 1950's/60's, didn't take his first ballet lesson until he was 21!! If you'd like to see some of his work, he played the Child-Catcher in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and the Mad Hatter in 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (with Fiona Fullterton as Alice). He also plays all four villains in the film version of 'The Tales of Hoffman' (though someone else does his singing) and as Mischa in 'The Red Shoes'. Check IMDb.com for more information and availability on video/dvd.
Good luck!!

Its not too late, i'm 12. I started when i was 22 monts. But, i know alot of professional dancers who started way later then you. So, i say go for it! Just start slow. Take one or two classes a week. At a local studio. After a few months, take 3. And so on until you are the very best in your class. An average professional dancer in between the ages of 10 and 14 (like me) takes 6 classes a week. when you're about 15 or 16 and really think ballet is your path, talk to your parents about going to london and joining the royal school ballet.
Best of luck!!

You are not too young or too old to be thinking of ballet as a career. You can do anything you put your mind too. Ballet is a beautiful expressive dance and even those who do not go on to make it their career, forever benefit from the good muscle base it helps to develop. Do keep this in mind, ballerina's have height requirements and are not generally physically overdeveloped. There seems to be a specific body type required for ongoing success in the ballet. That doesn't mean you don't have a career on broadway or in the movies. Good luck and reach for the stars.

I don't want this to upset you, but it's probably too late for you. You wouldn't have the time to complete the training that you need to get a real career in ballet. They want you to be fully trained around age 20 or so. By the time you were trained, they wouldn't want you because you'd be too old. Younger girls can dance for many more years. The ballet career is over before you're even over the hill.
But nothing is stopping you from going out and proving me wrong! You could be a great ballet dancer with natural talent! Give it a shot and see where it goes, but don't be disappointed if they tell you that you started too late.

Hi. Sounds like you need to find the best local ballet school and meet with the instructors there. They'll be able to give you a real assessment of your chances. And regardless, it isn't too late to start a career in dance...even if you aren't a prima ballerina! So go for it.

It depends how flexible, intelligent (in ballet), and healthy you are. Just because you have seen your friends or movie stars do it doesn't mean it's easy. But if you are all of the above and enthusiastic about it, I say no, it is not too late for a ballet career.
(Good luck ;))

it is definetly never too late to start something, i started dance when I was 3 and I still dance to this day. I don't plan on going anywhere (like london) with it because i believe that dance is something anyone can do. There are girls in my dance class that are freshmen or 8th graders and they are just starting (and they become better and better everytime they come). Dancing is a only a career if you are paid or put under pressure to dance.

i'm sixty two - I choose I had replaced occupation at your age. i'm a retired financial enterprise supervisor - I entered banking at sixteen. i did no longer do too badly from it yet i grew to become into on no account a hundred% chuffed. I now recognize that if I had replaced occupation in my 20s i'm going to have been happier. looking forward it looked daunting - looking back i ask your self why i presumed it daunting. stick on your coronary heart - yet once you do positioned each and every thing into it. P.S. My daughter is 27, no longer long graduated, and is a promising style clothier. do no longer supply up xx (from a sixty two 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous father!!

No. It is never too late to try anything. My mom knows someone who barely started ballet at like, age 20, and she made it fine. May sound corny, but if you put your mind to it, you really can do anything.
