Do you mean of the thirteen American colonies that became the future United States? North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia are the definate southern colonies. Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware are also considered southern states, but sometimes they are grouped with the "middle colonies" of Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.

The southern colonies were Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. Large plantations were built there. They were worked by cheap labor. These plantations turned out turpentine, indigo, and tobacco.

Also, I've seen a reference to "Southern Colonies" in the UK.
