First of all the answer to your question is no, this years winter has nothing to do with global warming, or El Nino for that matter as mentioned in an earlier post. You cannot link one particular event to such a broad scale idea. This years abnormally warm temps are due to a primarily zonal wind pattern that has kept artic air masses bottled up at the north pole. May I remind you that as of today (jan 2nd) there is no significant signs that an el nino is occuring so please dont assume and use these terms if you do not know what they really do mean... As for the other post...The process you have described is not "global warming" the process you are refering to is the greenhouse effect. Shortwave radiation from the sun is absorbed by the earth and re-emitted as longwave radiation on the order of about 9 microns. This outgoing radiation is NOT "TRAPPED" nor "reflected" by greenhouse gases such as C02, methane, water vapor, etc. It is absorbed and re-emitted by these gases. Similar to what happens in a greenhouse, hence the name. Global warming is a very slow process and we should not be jumping to outragoues conclusions that certain synoptic scale weather events and patterns are caused by global warming. People need to educate themselves by reading scholarly articles and books rather than just believing what the media is telling them. You should not just assume that this winter is warm, or that hurricane was strong, or that tornado was devastating because of global warming. That is completely ignorant and misleading.

We live on a planet that constantly changes.

I live in Florida. This year it was in the 70's for Christmas. Back in 89, it snowed. Some years it's hot, some years it's cold.

Global warming is a questionable theory. If we were headed into the next ice age, we'd be freaking out about global cooling.

Yes. I live in CT were the weather is usually cold this time of year. Not to mention we would have gotten at least 3 bad snow storms by now however, we haven't gotten any snow and the temperature remains to be in the mid 40's and sometime low 50's.

It's very scary.

Yes, I think so. Global warming seems to be the very reason that winter hasn't graced us with snowstorms and such.
Global warming is a problem that is slowly becoming more threatening. It really is just the matter of more of the sun's rays getting trapped within the Earth's troposphere, due to the thickening of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. More of the sun's rays get trapped, and heats the Earth a bit more than usual.

My personal opinion, for what it's worth....Is that global warming is a tributing factor.

I'm a big proponent of space exploration and wish we were light years ahead technologically speaking (Which ain't gonna happen with George Bush in office and money wasted on anything related to the sub-humans in the Middle East).

BUT, Space Shuttles leaving the Earth DO burn away some of the atmosphere when they reach escape velocity.

AND...All of the collective damage from carbon monoxide from auto exhaust over the years AND CFC's from aerosol cans doesn't help either.

There's no global warming where I am today. It's a nice even minus 40 F with a windchill of minus 65 F. Global warming seems to have passed me by. If you see it send it north.

Global warming is that the average temperature has risen 1.8 degrees the past 100 years. Colorado has plenty of snow

no its not. It has sumthing to do with the way the storms are moving in other areas in the world. and there is not enough precip. but idt thats because of global warming. maybe milankovitch cycles or something else.
there is still much debate over the whole global warming thing

YOu're using extremely unscientific data collection and drawing vague conclusions from it. However, yes, global warming is causing a noticable warming trend, enough to start putting some ski resorts on the ropes financially.
