Well there's about 50 different things that could be wrong. You haven't even told us what type of keyboard. PS/2 or USB. You have to try a different keyboard to rule out that the keyboard is the actual problem. Or try the keyboard on a different computer.
Try booting into safe mode to rule out a driver or applicaiton issue.
Also check for bent pins if it is a PS/2

Here are the steps to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Remove and reinstall the Keyboard Driver from the Device Manager. Install Keyboard/Battery Controller Firmware Updates, if available.
2. If the issue still persists, run a Keyboard Test to confirm the status of the Keyboard. Visit this link for details:
http://www.passmark.com/products/keytest.htm
NOTE: The URL mentioned above will take you to a non HP Website. HP does not control and is not responsible for information outside of the HP Web site.
3. If the Keyboard fails the Test, try removing and reseating the keyboard once. Suggest this only if the Computer is out of warranty and comfortable with that steps. Or else suggest the Customer to contact ASP or replace the keyboard with a new one.
If the Computer is under warranty, arrange a Mail-In Repair Service. Don't suggest Keyboard replacement for warranty Customers, because Keyboard is not an EU Warranty Replacement Part.
Regards,
Prasad.

Did you spill something on it? Ok try this with your computer still on just unplug it and plug it back in. Or try this. Go to start > control panel > system > hardware > device manager > look for your keyboard and righ click and select update drivers, if you can't do this try deleting it. When you restart everything should be fine. If this doesn't work then I am sorry I could not help. If anything you can get a cheap one for like $10 or cheaper at second hand store. Good luck.

Try another keyboard, if you have it. If it's PS/2, then try getting a USB keyboard instead. If it's a USB keyboard, try plugging it to another port. If all fails then there may be a problem in one of your BIOS settings - since it's impossible to know what version you have, I'd suggest getting professional help (computer tech) from a local provider to come over and check it out.

OK always check the most obvious first - even if it seams stupid
check the cable...literally follow it from the keyboard to the computer and pull it out and re-insert it making sure its a snug fit.
If it is a USB cable try a different USB port,
then power-cycle your computer (turn it on and then turn it off)
there should be 3 little lights on it near the 9-key pad (the numbers)
see if they blink at all showing a connection to the computer.
1st things 1st...

It's broke.
Yeah - a lotta things could be wrong with it - most have been covered already. What did you spill in it?
Go to Big Lots and buy one of their $7.00 GE keyboards and see if it works, in the meanwhile, try your keyboard on a friends PC or his keyboard on yours.
A whole 10 points? Cool.

If you are using an USB keyboard, try a different port for the keyboard and then restart the system.

Of course you've probably tried this already, but try completely shutting your computer off, unplugging it for a few seconds, plugging it back in, & turning it back on again

Mine does that at work all the time... I just unplug it and plug it back in... if that doesn't work then I have no idea. Maybe a virus?
