Trail of Tears (which goes right through where i live) was the forced removal of native americans from there land. Manifest Destiny was the expansion of the west.

Funny Cat's definitions are correct.

There would not have been a trail of tears if it hadn't been for the assertion of manifest destiny.

Manifest destiny was a political philosophy (or excuse) for doing what was in the best interest of the US gov. during the late 18th and 19 cent (and into the 20th too) The right of the manifest destiny of the US was trotted out over and over....when we took over the Hawaiian islands (ousting the legitimate monarchy there), interfered with many So. American governments many times, and shoved the native, non-white Americans off their traditional territories so European settlers could take over the land or resources on the land.
