maybe you weren't focused on listening intently onto the song, but you just wanted something to void the silence. Most of the time, I enjoy the rhythm more than the "singing" (I listen to a lot of R&B). But I wouldn't really be shocked. Plus, a lot of times, people don't sing clearly enough, so what you heard doesn't match the real lyrics anyways.

Oh good lord yes.
I was listening to Moonage Daydream the other day and finally heard something correctly
The way I'd heard it for 25 plus years was
"the church of mad love is such a holy place to be"
It is really
" the church of MAN love is such a holy place to be"
I'm ok with all of that of course but it struck me funny.

I grew up in the 80's and loved the song "Turning Japanese" my sister laughed at me as I sang and danced my little heart out. Only a couple ago did I find out what the lyrics mean. Okay, I was a little naive.

Yeah that is the reason I love misheard lyrics..I have looked up lyrics to a song I swore I knew by heart and then there is it, I'd been singing it wrong all that time! LOL It is a weird feeling...

It took a LONG time before I heard "and the bad moon's on the rise" instead of "and the bathroom's on the right" from the CCR song "Bad Moon Rising"

Yeah, or you finally understood the meaning of it.
Or, you thought it was one phrase like "knew very wrong" and it turns out to be another like "Newberry Road".
Happens all the time.
As for being shocked, It just mostly makes more sense to me, like going from "what the heck is that supposed to mean" to "oh!!! ok"

Yes! Why didn't I hear it earlier? Because I was so caught up in the sound and not the lyrics. It can happen. *shrugs*

Oh I have done that before. There was this foreign band named 'For my pain.' They sing in english, but it;s hard to make out. One day I finally ready the lyrics and was like...geez. Good question.
