In my opinion, Ozzy's main musical contribution was being in the band that founded Heavy Metal, Black Sabbath. The band rehearsed in a building that was across the street from a theatre that played nothing but horror films. Ozzy found it strange that people would go there and spend their money, just to be scared to death. Ozzy said to the other band members, "Why don't we try to scare people with music, instead of movies?" Read the book, "Bang Your Head", which covers the history of Metal.

On a vocal skills point, there isn't any question - Ozzy, extremely frankly, can not sing. Dio would desire to. On a songwriting point, as quickly as lower back, this is going to Dio. Ozzy wrote almost not something for Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi became the known writer of the song and Geezer Butler wrote very almost each and all of the lyrics), or perhaps in his solo band he in lots of cases wasn't writing the lyrics. Dio wrote very almost each and all of the lyrics for his solo band, or perhaps while he became with Black Sabbath. Ozzy's benefit is in media presence and, for this reason, popularity. So, the authentic King of heavy steel is Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler is his best Minister. King Diamond is a extremely nicely-basic pretender, inspite of the shown fact that.

he contributed MANY excellent songs for our listening pleasure, starting with Black Sabbath. Sabbath helped lead the way for the heavy metal that we have today. had Ozzy not come along, metal might not have become what it is now.

Not only has he contributed to some of the best rock songs ever (War Pigs, Iron Man, etc...), but he has used his name (Ozzfest) to help push other heavier metal bands into the mainstream.
