They aren't anymore difficult than say, English 101. What is difficult is actually becoming a decent agent. Passing a state real estate exam doesn't mean one has the skills necessary to ever succeed in real estate. It just means your legal, learning how to keep your license and perform great service to your clients takes years to learn. One really never stops learning if they intend on being a top producer with a large referral base.

The requirements vary depending on the state you live in. However, I've been told that Ohio has one of the strictest set of standards and I did not find it too difficult.

If you have a strong desire to be in this field, then the classes should come easy for you. Make sure to ask around for referrals to the best schools in your area.
