Relax first of all, don't be afraid, the more you tense up the worse the pains will seem, try to concentrate on the pain rather than avoid it, if your into music and it relaxes you play some, anything you can do that helps you to relax, do it, it will help the contractions along as well as help you to rest....

Well, as a first time mom..it may be hard for you to tell when your in labor. If at any point you feel in pain, weird or strange and are worried that you may be in labor....go to the doc and don't let them make you feel stupid if you get there and are not in labor. How would you know.....your not the doc.lol You may also want to get some walking in now to help make labor a little bit easier.
Second...when labor does happen..go to the doc and try to stay calm.Do what they tell you.
Third....when you are delivering/full blown labor.........
Do what you see fit.Scream if you need to, request pain meds if you are in too much pain. There is one thing i cannot stand and that is when woman convence other women that screaming or having pain meds during delivery makes you less of a woman.Allow the doc to induce labor if that is needed.Listen to the doc,he/she knows what they are doing.Push when they tell you to or...lol demand the right to push if they wont tell you to.
I had an epidural(cant spell it) with my first baby.....i would not have had it any other way.Labor is a painful thing. And sometimes when its your first....labor can drag out for a very long time.I was in labor with my first for 2 days. And then my doc broke my water......WOW! lol then i REALLY knew what pain was...so when they offered that epidural....u bet i took it.lol I wasnt going to be able to take much more anyways.
But, most importantly....try and relax, stay calm and try not to worry about you and baby too much.Child birth is a natural thing, women do it everyday with no real problems....other than the usual..lol.
Oh and make sure someone is there for you, love and suport in a time like this....is soooo very much needed.

First off, it will be ok. Let your mind rest in the fact that your body was designed to do this.
When it comes to labor have you sat down with your doctor and talked about all of your options? Have you thought out a birth plan on the things that you would like to have happen. (meaning whether you want an epidural or not or whether you want pitossin or not...etc)
I encourage to think about what you would like. Of course being that I am a Doula in training I would strongly suggest a doula. A doula is a woman that is there to support you through the birth of your child. Doula's generally help support a mother that does not want medication intervention during their deliveries. This is an option of course.
If you are looking for advice on your feelings of being overwhelmed by the thought of labor I would suggest talking with your doctor midwife or doula. This is a normal state of panic at the end of a pregnancy. Generally women do get nervous when thinking about the pain of labor and what their bodies will do. Just remember that you were perfectly designed for this. You will do a wonderful job.
I have provided a resource below that may help answer some of your questions regarding a doula and also some links in finding a doula in your area.

You know people will tell you that you can do relaxation breathing and listen to music and have a focal point but really you are so excited during labor that you dont have time to think about stuff like that. If you are in early stages of labor you are still so excited by how fast everything is going that you really dont think about that other stuff. But after the baby is born, you could always take a new parenting magazine or something to read. Good Luck

I'm 16 and I have a 2 month old baby boy..I was soooo scared too..but i'm so thankful that I had my fiancee and my mother in the room when I gave birth..also there were my boyfriends parents and his aunt and uncle..it was nice having such a strong support system, helping me count thru contractions..and keeping me busy and such..I was in alot of pain and I was very tired, and thought I was going to have a very long labor..so I got a shot of morphine..and I slept for about 2 hours and played cards..and finally it wore off..and my contractions were touching 120..and it hurt bad..but with everyone helping me I was able to cope without swearing or hitting anyone..and I was actually nice to everyone..and my nurse was awesome..

So my advice is to have alot of family around that will help you out..and be nice to your nurse because she can keep you in pain, or out of pain..Luckily I took the pain and didn't have to have an epidural..

If you wanna talk you can im me at logansmama16

My advice is not to let Doctors try and hurry the labor process by giving you potossin (not how it is spelled)...it is a drug that causes your uterus to contract really really hard...If I was you...I would not go to the hospital until YOU HAVE TO...because insurance companies don't like you there any longer than what is absolutely necessary, and they (people at the hospital) will try to hurry the process with drugs. Just relax and know this is a natural process...when you start to feel the contractions/cramps...just relax as much as possible...take a nice warm bath...and don't go until your contractions have evened out being a few minutes apart (your doctor should be able to tell how many minutes apart you need to be before you come in)...Some people panic and want to run right in the minute they "feel" something different going on....just relax and let your body naturally process what it is going through for as long as you can....then go in...I am not telling you that you can not have something for the pain ( my daughter had epidurals for both of her children)....It will all be okay....just don't panic...and know you are going to get through it fine.

hi there, i have just had my second baby and with both pregnancys i had a birth plan that the doctors recommend you do up.. but i ended up having the hard drugs(he he) epidural!! both times in labour. you pretty much having to do what your baby wants you to do... they dont start rule your life for the first time when they are born.. i am now convinced they control your life the minute you go into labour!!! good luck and dont panick to much about a birth plan...

I'm getting closer to my due date too!

I went to prenatal class and they tell you to do certain things; like focus on breathing and have a birth partner help you (if you need a massage or something.) Eat ice chips; walk around if you can.

But even though I learned lots of things; I think I will just have to take it as it comes...every woman is different and you can't really be prepared enough.
