Most importantly, make sure whatever you're downloading has lots of seeds.

well the problem with torrents is that the people your downloading from can choose how much data they give out at a given time, so you'll get like 10kb of data every two minutes, something like that right? So unless you can find a SUPER fast host, you'll never speed up your downloading time.

depending on what download client you are using and what you are downloading...... you could get the program download accelerator plus or if you are downloading torrents you should use the older versions of torrent clients and set the download and upload rates at unlimited....... hope that helps
